WORLD’S FAIR, PARIS, 1889 THREE EIFFEL TOWER ASCENT MEDALS, PARISIAN METALLURGICAL FACTORY, CHARLES TROTIN (1833–1904) Copper, featuring the inscription on the obverse: “Souvenir of my ascent to the top of the Eiffel Tower - 1889” and an engraving of the recipient’s name “Maurice and Laure, September 13, 1898” on one of them; the others are blank. On the reverse, the Eiffel Tower and various Parisian and foreign monuments such as St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome and the Pyramid of Giza. Diameter: 4.2 cm. During the 1889 World’s Fair and in the years that followed, this medal was presented to visitors who climbed the spiral staircase to the top.
