PAUL FONTAN (1880–1914) DOCUMENTARY COLLECTION A collection of postcards, photographs, correspondence, and newspaper clippings, including: a photo postcard of Paul Fontan (an officer of the Republican Guard who led the shootout against Bonnot and his gang in Choisy-le-Roi and planted the dynamite to blow up the garage), an extremely rare family photograph of Paul Fontan, his wife, and his son; a personal postcard from Paul Fontan’s mother, who was following her son to the front (he died there on September 17, 1914, in the Somme). • PAUL FONTAN CLASS OF 1996 BADGE An oval-shaped, gilded, and enameled metal badge depicting a sword, the Knight’s Cross of the Legion of Honor, the Medal of Honor for acts of courage and devotion, and the coat of arms of Paris. Badge of the gendarmerie class named after Paul Fontan. 1996.
