KUB was created between 1882 and 1887 by Julius Maggi (1846-1912). Initially called Arôme Maggi, it was renamed Kub in 1907. On the strength of its success, Maggi moved to Paris and France in 1902. However, the First World War brought production to a halt, as the "K" in KUB had a strong German connotation. Success returned after the war. Julius Maggi was a pioneer of advertising and one of the first major users of the large-format enamel plate, visible from afar.
