The uniform of the Forts, heavy load handlers at Les Halles de Paris, was characterized by a "coltin", a yellow leather hat with a very wide brim, and a blouse to which was attached a metal plate bearing the coat of arms of Paris, engraved with their profession of "fort" and their family name. One of the entry criteria was the ability to carry a load of up to 150 kg over 60 meters. According to some accounts, the strongest could carry up to half an ox on their shoulders. The guild, created under Louis IX, died out in 1969, following the move of Les Halles de Paris to Rungis.
