RARE CUP ON PIEDOUCHE Silver 925 thousandth, with decoration inlaid with twelve coins in Gold, that is to say four coins of a Guinea and eight coins of half a Guinea in the effigy of the king George III, some dated 1780, 1791. With engraved inscription: "This cup was made to commemorate the entrance of the allied armies into Paris on the 31st March 1814; the consequent overthrow of the tyrant Bonaparte and the restoration of Louis the 18th to the throne of France. The gold coins surrounding it were won by bets previously made that the above events would take place, by Charles Harman". Goldsmith : Stephen ADAMS. London, 1814. Repunched with a swan. Weight. 336 g. Height. 15 cm. Diameter. 10 cm. Wear of use, shock. Translation of the inscription: "This cup was made to commemorate the entry of the allies into Paris on March 31, 1814, in consequence of the resignation of the tyrant Bonaparte and the restoration to the throne of France of Louis XVIII. The gold coins around the rim were won in bets previously made on the above events occurring, by Charles Harman."
