STATUE OF PTAH-SOKAR-OSIRIS Stuccoed and... - Lot 131 - Lucien Paris
STATUE OF PTAH-SOKAR-OSIRIS Stuccoed and painted wood. Egyptian art, Late Period or Ptolemaic period, c. 664-30 B.C. Height (without base): 52.4 cm. This is a mummiform representation of the deity, standing on a pedestal and surrounded by a shroud. A line of hieroglyphs, largely incomplete, decorates the front and the back, which is pierced by a cavity. A hole at the top of the skull suggests that the deity was crowned with a headdress of two feathers surrounding a sun disk and resting on two ram's horns (also called a henou crown). Ptah-Sokar-Osiris is a syncretism of three deities whose funerary functions he combines. This deity was particularly venerated in Memphis and watched over the necropolis of Saqqara.
