MURAL PUBLIC MAILBOX, CALLED "MOUGEOTTE" Cast iron, rectangular shape, in front of the inscription "Postes" surmounting the hole and surmounted by the initials RF of the French Republic, opening by a leaf with windows bearing the inscription "Postes,... levées par jour, la... levée de... is done", framed by uprights with cut sides decorated with scales and scrolls, topped by a small roof decorated with scales. Fondeur L. Delachanal, Paris. Marked. c. 1900. Height. 63 cm ; Width. 35.5 cm; Depth. 25 cm. Modified lock. This mailbox belongs to the first series of cast iron mailboxes put into service by the administration, replacing the old wooden mailboxes. Manufactured by L. Delachanal, 3, rue Taylor in Paris, they were put in service following a circular of November 15, 1900. This new model of box was nicknamed Mougeotte, from the name of Etienne Mougeot, under-secretary of State of Posts and Telegraphs, author of the circular.
