Bust of the Statue of Liberty Proof in regula and brass. Inscribed on the right shoulder, "Secured for France and United States of America. Copyrights 31 August 1876, 5 November 1878". On a black granite base. 15,5 x 9 x 8 cm. The head of "Liberty Enlightening the World", known as the "Statue of Liberty", both a work of art and a technical feat, conceived by the French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi (1834 -1904) was revealed to the public in the gardens of the Champ de Mars on the occasion of the 1878 Paris World Fair. Visitors could enter the head up to the diadem by means of a 43 meters long staircase. The busts like the one presented here were sold to the public by Bartholdi in order to finance the construction site that was held in Paris and Levallois-Perret.
