In 1869, the brothers Abraham-Behor de Camondo (1829-1889) and Nissim de Camondo (1830-1889), Jewish bankers from Constinople, settled in Paris to develop their family business. In 1870, they acquired two adjoining lots on rue de Monceau, bordering Parc Monceau. Count Nissim de Camondo had a private mansion built at No. 63. For this project, the architect was awarded the silver medal for private architecture by the Société Centrale des Architectes. The hotel was sold in 1893 by Isaac de Camondo, Abraham-Behor's son, to Gaston Menier (1855-1934), younger son of Émile Menier, senator of Seine-et-Marne and director of the Compagnie du Chocolat Menier, who probably had the annex buildings built on the courtyard and the street building.
