UNIVERSAL EXHIBITION 1889 EXCEPTIONAL FIVE-FOLD... - Lot 168 - Lucien Paris
UNIVERSAL EXHIBITION 1889 EXCEPTIONAL FIVE-FOLD LOUIS TYPE LOCK XIII. MASTER-COMPAGNON Piece Cut brass, gilded and silvered bronze, rectangular in shape, engraved with the arms of Paris (nave of the Nauts on a floral background, surrounded by a crown, oak leaves and laurel leaves) flanked by two hives, symbols of the companionship. This piece is surmounted by a polylobé brass motif on hinge, engraved with the crenellated crown of the Déesee Cybèle, framed by an allegory of arts and techniques, on the one hand, and a view of the Eiffel Tower and the Champ-de-Mars pavilions, on the other hand. Lock with three different security entrances with trunk, with groove. Left lock, known as "pincers" or "crab" or "clamp" (extremely rare). Middle lock, with cut-out panels, with quadruple flatenne. Right-hand lock, with a throat, with a sliding flat pin. Accompanied by their respective keys, the central key also serves, by turning it over, to unlock the two combinations of a double literate combination counter. Two locks are engraved with the name E. DOLLAR. The mechanism bears the engraved inscription "D. JNE BREVETÉ SGDG". Main lock: 23 x 43 cm. Frame: 48.5 x 63.5 cm. 1889. Exceptional condition. It is likely that our lock is the only existing one. For his office located at the top of the Eiffel Tower, Gustave Eiffel ordered metal furniture on which several high quality locksmiths worked. It is possible that the lock we are presenting is a work of a Master Companion Locksmith as part of this order. We attach a small lock and his wallet key.
