UNIVERSAL EXHIBITION 1878 STONE SMALL Works on the Statue of Liberty. Photograph in business card format. Universal Exhibition of 1878. Exclusive concession. 13 x 8.5 cm. Pierre PETIT, photographer, 29 and 31 place Cadet The head of "La Liberté éclairant le monde", known as "Statue of Liberty", both a work of art and a technical achievement, created by the French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904) was revealed to the public in the gardens of the Champ de Mars on the occasion of the 1878 Paris Universal Exhibition. Visitors could enter the head to the tiara via a 43-metre staircase. Photographs such as the one we are presenting were sold to the public by Bartholdi to finance the construction site in Paris and Levallois-Perret.
