RARE STREET INFORMATION PLAQUE IN DECLIVITY,... - Lot 518 - Lucien Paris
RARE STREET INFORMATION PLAQUE IN DECLIVITY, PARIS
Cast iron, rectangular shape, with cut sides, bearing the inscription: "Point where the reinforcement horse ceases to be authorized",
in bas-relief in white letters.
Second half of the 19th century.
20 x 30 cm.
Heavily loaded carts reinforced their crews with reinforcement horses to help them climb the slopes.
The decree of application of the Grammont law of September 10, 1852 came to put some order in the often abusive practices
practices of horse renters. Henceforth, only entrepreneurs with an authorization could rent horses, while respecting
rates posted in the reinforcement periods. Thus the decree specified the parts of the imperial and departmental roads on which
the use of reinforcement horses was authorized. In its article 5, the decree specified the terms of use of the reinforcement horses:
they could only be harnessed in the direction of the climb of the road and had to be uncoupled at the top of the climb.
