CÃNDIDO ARAGONEZ DE FARIA KNOWN AS FARIA (1849-1911). Bostock Racecourse, The Centauress. Lithographed poster, featuring the circus rider Blanche Allarty. Signed in the plate. c. 1900. 79.5 x 60 cm. (Under glass). The famous Montmartre racecourse, designed for the 1900 World's Fair, between Place Clichy and the Montmartre Cemetery, was, after several setbacks, rented from 1903 to early 1907, to Charles C. Bostock, English wild animal trainer. It became a circus, the Hippodrome Bostock. The extraordinary Gaumont Palace cinema replaced it and was itself replaced in 1975 by a residential and commercial building.
