Military toise graduated with nails. Carries a pewter plate, indicating the sizes required to enter the various corps of the French Army: "Silver Medal - Price 25 // 1MT 56c Infanterie de ligne et légère // 1MT 67c Génie équipages - Mres Chasseurs Hussards// 1MT 70c Artillerie - Dragons - Lanciers// 1MT 75c Cuirassiers // 1MT 76c Carabiniers". A second, smaller pewter plate bears the inscription "SOMATOMÈTRE INVENTION LAVERGNE À POITIERS 1842". Complete with stop cleat, handle and guide pulley. Escutcheon-shaped base.
