MONTEREAU HISTORIATED PLATE FROM THE PHILHELLENIC SERIES Fine earthenware, with grisaille-printed decoration of a representation captioned "Comité Grec présidé par Mr. de Chateaubriand", the wing adorned with the names of heroes of the Greek Revolution and Philhellènes in laurel wreaths. Debossed. c. 1820-1830. Diameter. 24 cm. The Comité Grec de Paris was created around François-René de Chateaubriand to help the Greek people during the War of Independence (1822-1830) against the Ottoman Empire.
