UNDETERMINED AUTHOR. The royal family, under Louis-Philippe. Fragment of oil on canvas, pasted on cardboard, bearing the handwritten notation in ink "This fragment of a painting was saved from the flames in the small courtyard of the Palais Royal on February 28, 1848 at 2:1⁄2 a.m." Queen Marie-Amélie and various political figures can be distinguished. The Palais-Royal fell victim to the 1848 Revolution that overthrew Louis-Philippe. The building was looted, paintings were burned or torn, furniture and art objects were thrown out of the windows. Only a few works or fragments of works could be saved. In a period frame in wood and gilded composition, the spandrels with leafy cartouches. Fragment : 25,4 x 30,4 cm. Cardboard: 26,8 x 34,9 cm.
