JEAN CHIAPPE (1878-1940). Words of order. Paris, Eugène Figuière, 1930. In-12. 239 pp. Bound in full green morocco, spine ribbed, boards and spine with gilt fillets, silk endpaper, covers preserved. Copy of the first edition on large paper. One of 26 on Hollande paper numbered from A to Z. Copy "C" as in Chiappe printed for Madame Jean Chiappe. Sent by Jean Chiappe "To my beloved wife, Jean, June 30th 1930". Spine unstained. In a marbled slipcase. Appointed in 1927, Jean Chiappe was a controversial police prefect, who repressed communist demonstrations and cultivated friendships among monarchist and extreme right-wing circles, including the Action Française. He was elected President of the Paris City Council in 1935. One of the most beautiful copies known.
