(JOHN ALLAN BROUN, F.R.S. Lunar diurnal variation of magnetic declination near the magnetic equator. Deduced from observations made in the observatory of the Highness the Maharajah of Travancore. Edinburgh, Neill and company. 1872. Brochure. 27.8 x 22 cm. Two folding plates. Dedicated "to Monsieur le Contre-Amiral Pâris, hommage de l'auteur". Cover soiled, torn. François-Edmond Pâris (1806-1893) was promoted to vice-admiral in 1864 and became director of the Dépôt des cartes et plans de la Marine. He was elected member of the Bureau des Longitudes. He was then entrusted with the direction of the Naval Museum in the Louvre, which was to become the National Museum of the Navy, and which he directed until his death. The Musée National de la Marine holds a collection of approximately 450 plans, tracings and preparatory drawings made by Pâris.
