EMBLEM OF THE COMPAGNIE DES WAGONS-LITS Polished bronze, featuring the monogram "WL" of the Wagons-Lits company, framed by two heraldic lions, within a ribbon and laurel leaves. Engraved on the back n° 3533. 1929. 63 x 82 cm. The two lions are a tribute to the kingdom of Belgium whose king Leopold participated in the financing of the Compagnie des Wagons-Lits at its beginning. PROVENANCE. Luxury sleeper type Lx of 1929 n°3533 manufactured by EIC Entreprise Industrielle Charentaise in Aytré for the Compagnie des Wagons-Lits. This emblem, created at the very beginning of the Company, adorned all the cars of its luxury trains, in particular the Orient Express.
