BLACK-FIGURE PELIKE Side A: Athena battling the giant Enceladus. Side B: Dionysus and a maenad. This Péliké, a rather rare form in black figures, depicts a gigantomachy scene on side A, set against a background of sprigs of dots. A Peliké showing the same scene is in the Leipzig Museum. Side B depicts Dionysus holding a rhyton in the company of a maenad, also in a dotted branch décor. Black-glazed orange terracotta with red and white paint highlights. Greek art, Attica, c. 500 B.C. Attributed to the Leagros Group. Height. 25 cm. Visible cracks and restorations. PROVENANCE. Coll. A. de Munter, Brussels. An export certificate for cultural property dated January 12, 2024 will be given to the buyer.
