TYPE A BLACK-FIGURE EYE CUP The sides are adorned with two prophylactic eyes surmounted by a sinuous black line representing eyebrows. They frame a group of two figures: on the left, a man (Apollo), dressed in a long chiton, stands in profile, facing right. He is dressed in a red-striped himation, a long chiton and holds a zither (white highlight on upper part); on the right, a woman (Leto), standing in profile, facing left (white highlight on face and feet), is draped in a long chiton covered with an embroidered red-striped himation. Black-glazed orange clay with red and white paint highlights. Greek art, Attica, c. 550-530 B.C. Height. 9 cm; Diameter. 22.5 cm, with handles. 28 cm. Visible breaks and gaps. BIBLIOGRAPHY.
