TYPE B ATTIC BANDED BOWL WITH BLACK FIGURES The sides adorned with two prophylactic eyes framing a group of three figures: in the center, Dionysus, crowned with ivy, seated on a tripod to the right, looks back, head turned to the left, at a dancing maenad, part of her head turned to the right. In front of him, to the right, a dancing maenad. Tondo: A reserved disk. At center, a hoplite wearing a Corinthian helmet with helmet, cuirass and himation with red stripes floating back and falling forward; he is charging to the right, holding a shield in his left hand and a javelin in his right. He wears cnemids. Above, surrounding the helmet, a meaningless inscription. Black-glazed orange clay with white and red paint highlights. Greek art, Attica, c. 520 - 510 B.C. See Wurzburg Painter 210 for the various motifs (ref. 13 amphora, Chigi Zonadadari collection). Height. 10 cm; Diameter. 23.5 cm, with handles. 31.5 cm.
